“If you can earn the trust of a horse you have gained a friend for life.”

Available for Adoption & Sponsorship

Spice

Spice is a coming 5 yr old QH/Paint cross mare that we purchased from the Westlock auction in September 2023 along with her friend Sugar. We had originally only purchased Sugar at the time, however when we went to pick her up we saw how bonded she and Spice were and couldn’t fathom the idea of separating them. We therefore offered to purchase Spice as well so that we could keep these best friends together.

Spice was quite timid and unhandled and in dire need of proper nutrition. And little did we know at the time, also pregnant! She has since foaled out a beautiful baby boy, her first, and is now being allotted some much needed rest and bonding time with her new baby.

We look forward to posting updates of her progress over the next year.

Sugar

Sugar is a coming 3 yr old QH/Paint cross mare that we purchased from the Westlock auction in September 2023. She was emaciated, barely halter broke and had been dumped at the auction by her previous owner with injuries to both front feet. We later discovered her injuries had occurred earlier that Spring from scavenging around burnt out buildings for food, and as a result had developed significant proud flesh growth to her right foot.

We successfully were able to cut away the proud flesh and are happy to say she is on the mend. She is currently receiving ground work training, proper feed and supplements, as well as daily handling and TLC. She is incredibly level headed and gentle with a little bit of sass throw into the mix.

She is officially available for adoption. Please inquire below for more information.

Pickles

Pickles is our newest resident. He came in via another rescue after being abandoned on a highway by his previous abusive owners. He is currently very distrusting, shy and we believe still intact. Once he has had a chance to settle into his space and relax we will begin assessing his level of handling and hopefully have the vet out to do a full assessment. Stay up to date on his progress by following us on social media!

Kat

Miss Kat is approximately 9 years old and is still moving through the significant stages of her healing journey. Originally seized from her original owner by the Alberta SPCA in the Spring of 2020 due to severe neglect, she has come a long way physically as well as mentally, but she does still have a long way to go. We are currently working with other trainers as well as our local vet clinic to find a healthy level of training as well as the proper nutritional support with the hope of bringing her body, mind and heart back into alignment. She is open to meeting potential adopters, however is currently only available for sponsorship until the right person comes along.

Baby Oliver

I mean, did you ever see anything so darn cute? Baby Oliver was born on March 31, 2024 at our sanctuary in Ardrossan. He came out strong, healthy and ready to SLAY the DAY! He is currently bonding with mom, learning just how fast he is capable of running, and giving everyone much needed laughter and joy on a regular basis.

He will not be ready for adoption for quite some time!

Piper

Believed to be 11 years old, this little mare has not had the greatest start. From being neglected and malnourished to being physically abused, she has many reasons to dislike humans on all levels.

Her original owners kept her in a 20x20 pen with one other horses, withheld food, medical and farrier treatment and even attempted to ‘break’ her by tying her head to the ground and proceeding to jump on and off her back.

She is now currently safe in our mare pasture where she is receiving proper feed & supplements as well as daily attention. We are now able to halter her without a catch pen and she is continuing to learn proper ground manners as well as healthy trust with the humans around her. She has also been reintroduced to the trailer from a healthy perspective and learning to stand calmly for the farrier.

Piper has a long road ahead of her with regards to building trust and a healthy relationship with humans. With every few steps forward she seems to take one or two back, and so slow and steady has been our approach for this particular girl. And while she is currently only available for sponsorship, we are open to applicants who are interested in learning more about her adoption. But please note: she will only go to an approved home that is capable of handling her very unique needs.

Permanent Residents

Roo

Rue is our oldest herd member and will be a permanent resident with us here at PARF. We estimate her to be approximately 27 years old but don’t let her age fool you. She can strut with the best of them and though she may be tiny, her attitude is most definitely not! She rules the roost with love and a bit of sass mixed in. Due to her age and her cushings diagnosis she is currently looking for sponsorship opportunities.

Whiz

Whiz is a 26 yr old QH retired reining mare. She spent the majority of her life competing and carrying people of all ages and sizes on her back. She was surrendered to us in the Fall of 2021 and it is here where she will enjoy her retirement and the remainder of her days.

As she is a senior, she is considered one of our high maintenance residents. She requires extra feed and supplements to help maintain her weight along with medication to support her cushing’s diagnosis and severe heart murmur. If you’d like to sponsor her please click the button below.

Quest

All we were told was that he was a paint stud pony that was being surrendered and needed to be gelded. We had no idea the severity of his condition until we showed up to load him.

We expected him to be thin (which he was) but we did not expect the clear signs of neglect and possible abuse he must have suffered. Currently Quest is under quarantine receiving meds and supplemental support to help him fight a bacterial infection that is slowly taking down his immune system. Once he has been cleared by our vet we will be able to perform further diagnostics to hopefully diagnose his neurological issues, geld him, and begin to integrate him into our herd.

Quest has been without other horse friends for most of his life. Humans have not been kind or compassionate towards him. He is sad, lonely, defeated, and in desperate need of Love, TLC and connection. If you’re interested in supporting his journey please click the button below to sponsor our sweet boy, he deserves everything we are able to possibly give him!

Winnie

Sweet Winnie is approximately 11 years old and is the most gentlest of souls. Due to her severe neglect she developed infections in both her eyes and was left 100% blind. but she doesn’t let that stop her! She’s the first to nicker at you when she can hear you coming and though she may bump into a few things here and there, she never misses a single opportunity to keep moving forward! As she is a permanent resident here at PARF, she is currently available for sponsorship while we do our best to get her body and her feet back in shape.

Cache’s People!

“We run an equine therapeutic program where we partner with horses to focus on mental health and wellness called TriUnity Equine. This past year we were ready to add another horse to our herd and contacted the Parsons Animal Rescue Foundation to see if there were any options available to us. Dayna selected a horse, Cache, for us that in her experience had amazing ability showing up in a genuine way when working with people. She felt he had a gift for our programs and encouraged us to come out and meet him. We came and fell in love instantly, as his sweet heart and goofy personality were exactly what we were looking for. It took us a few months to be ready to bring him home but Dayna and her team were patient and helpful throughout the whole process. She will definitely be our first call when we are ready for our herd to grow again and would highly recommend PARF to anyone looking to support a horse in need”
