“If you can earn the trust of a horse you have gained a friend for life.”

Spice is a 5 yr old QH/Paint cross mare that we purchased from the Westlock auction in September 2023 along with her friend Sugar. We had originally only purchased Sugar at the time, however when we went to pick her up we saw how bonded she and Spice were and couldn’t fathom the idea of separating them. We therefore offered to purchase Spice as well so that we could keep these best friends together.

Spice was quite timid and unhandled and in dire need of proper nutrition. And little did we know at the time, also pregnant! Baby Oliver is now almost a year old, and since weaning Spice has made leaps and bounds in her training and handling. She is currently receiving thorough groundwork training, learning to build trust with new people and will soon be ready for saddling.

She is currently available for adoption to the right home!

Pickles is believed to be approximately 3 years old. He came in via another rescue after being found abandoned on a highway. He came to us very distrusting and shy but has since settled in nicely and gained some confidence both in himself and in us. He handles the farrier like a perfect gentleman and will soon be ready for saddle and driving training. Once he has your trust, he is your best friend and loves to follow you around his pen and pasture. We think he would make an excellent little driving pony or a best friend to any little boy or girl looking for a pony pal!

Meet Summer and her beautiful daughter Ember. Ember is a beautiful little filly that was born in early June with full blindness in both eyes. Uncertain of how best to support her, and after being told by veterinarians it would be best to euthanize, Ember’s owner reached out to us for support. Since blindness is not new to us, we agreed to step in whole heartedly. While some may see her blindness as a disability that would inhibit her chances at a full and joyful life, we see it at a gift. Ember has the opportunity, just like any other horse, to experience joy and love to its fullest - and we intend on giving her that and so much more!

Ember will not be up for adoption but is currently accepting sponsors from anyone interested in being a part of her adventure with us here at PARF.

Thanks to our incredible supporters, we have managed to keep Ember and Summer together. They are currently enjoying their own private pen where they will remain throughout the winter as they receive regular handling and training.

Say “Hello” to Miss Mango!

Mango came to us as an owner surrender August 2025. She had been well-cared for by a lovely family for the last 6 years, but unfortunately, due to changes in her health, they were struggling to maintain her upkeep. As a result she was surrendered into our rehabilitation program. Mango is sweet as pie and truly a lovely addition to our little mini herd. She will require regular farrier trims (every 2 weeks until we can get her hoof health under control) as well as chasteberry and prascend to help manage her cushings.

She has settled in beautifully and will continue to have updates posted on her progress over the next couple of months. She is not currently available for adoption, but is available for sponsorship to anyone looking to provide her a little extra TLC during her healing process.

Born October 26th, Baby Freddy is something else! Surrendered to us at only 40 hours old, after his mother passed away suddenly, Freddy has been an adorable handful since Day 1. He is very curious, energetic, mischievous and full of LOVE. He runs the sanctuary and doesn’t take any cr*p from anybody! But don’t let his tough attitude fool you, he’s the most snuggly and affectionate little man and we absolutely adore him! Freddy is not currently available for adoption or sponsorship, and will instead spend his life at the sanctuary receiving love & affection and making tons of new friends!

Meet Piper!

Piper has been one of our most unique and challenging cases. Coming from a history of significant abuse and neglect, Piper has come a long way in her healing. One of the most honest and unapologetic horses we’ve ever met, her journey in this lifetime has been incredible and we are so honoured to be able to offer her safety, compassion and love.

Due to Piper’s history and the challenges she faces in building trust with new people, Piper is currently only available for sponsorship. Follow us on social media to watch her training and healing videos!

Permanent Residents

Quest

All we were told was that he was a paint stud pony that was being surrendered and needed to be gelded. We had no idea the severity of his condition until we showed up to load him.

We expected him to be thin (which he was) but we did not expect a severe neurological condition. And though he did come to us carrying a strep bacterium that developed into pneumonia, Quest has since fully recovered and is on his way to be integrated into our gelding herd soon. He was castrated in June, has received a solid trim and a full round of vaccinations and deworming and is receiving consistently handling and training.

Unfortunately Quest has been diagnosed with Wobblers Syndrome, which is a significant neurological condition that affects his gate and his balance. Though he is safe on the ground to handle, he will never be a safe riding horse and is therefore being offered permanent residency here at our rescue.

Winnie

Sweet Winnie is approximately 12 years old and is the most gentlest of souls. Due to her severe neglect she developed infections in both her eyes and was left 100% blind. but she doesn’t let that stop her! She’s the first to nicker at you when she can hear you coming and though she may bump into a few things here and there, she never misses a single opportunity to keep moving forward! As she is a permanent resident here at PARF, she is currently available for sponsorship while we do our best to get her body and her feet back in shape.
